My name is Veronica L. Riley. I’m 57 years old and I was born and raised in Hillsborough, NC. I have 11 siblings, 5 sisters and 6 brothers and they all still live near. I have 3 kids, 2 sons and a daughter, and 10 grandchildren. At the age twenty my desire was to pursue a career in law enforcement and obtained an associates degree in Criminal Justice Science. My goal was to work with teenage adolescents and eventually adjusted to work with developmentally dysfunctional adults. But the Lord had other plans for my life.
Never in my wildest dreams had I known the Lord would lead me to work in a Montessori school. My job here is administrative assistant, substitute, floating teacher, and finally monitoring the ratio and custodian duties to ensure the children and staff can continue to flourish in a clean environment the following day.
My greatest pleasure of working here is knowing I’m making a difference in all the developmental achievements by using Montessori philosophies. Not only do they learn from me but I get the opportunity to learn from them through family culture. It’s truly exciting to know I have the pleasure of being part of tomorrow’s child, physically, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally with lots of love and encouragement. I constantly ask myself if what I’m doing is what is best for all the children, staff, and myself to ensure the proper care and safety, each time I find my answer is “yes”.
