I am Courtney Mosley McMahan, Special Programs Coordinator for Providence: A Christian Montessori Community, working to support the school and staff in daily operations, growth opportunities, and new endeavors. After working over the past decade as a NC Teaching Fellow in public schools, and charter schools for four years, getting my master’s degree in Curriculum, Instruction, and Supervision from UNCW, and leading as Assistant Principal at NC Virtual Academy for several years, I am returning to Providence where I got my first start being the elementary summer arts program teacher from 2009-2012. Being back in a Montessori environment feels like home after being in the traditional school model since 2012.
My journey back to Providence comes after implementing Montessori at home while raising my two year old. After giving birth in 2021 to our precious little one, I decided to utilize the North American Montessori Center (NAMC) curriculum for Infants, and soon decided in 2022 that I wanted to embody Montessori full-time in our home and began online school at night with the NAMC Infant/Toddler Montessori Diploma Program. I believe in the Montessori pedagogy which embraces the natural child and the world around us, rooting each Montessori learner into lifelong learning and curiosity through their own paced growth in a holistic approach. Now that I have earned my NAMC Infant/Toddler Montessori Diploma this year (2023), I am excited about continuing my practice at home while also utilizing my knowledge of Montessori and my vast experience over the past decade in various educational settings to work part-time with Providence.
In addition to my passion for Montessori, I enjoy traveling, gardening, hiking, time with family, reading, and a good documentary or docu-series especially related to nature or taking care of the planet. Ordinarily, getting outside with my husband and toddler at home in Greensboro brings me the most joy in my life every day. Special days, in our family culture, are precious days celebrated with each other through adventures, big or small; this year we celebrated our two year old with an adventure at the NC Transportation Museum and will celebrate our seventh wedding anniversary with a Broadway show at the Tanger Center in Greensboro. In all I do, I strive to live a life filled with joy and purpose to be the light for others in my time and place in this world.
