My name is Brooke Bristow. I was born in 1996 and I’ve lived in Burlington, NC all my life. I have an older brother, Caleb who got married and now they live in Saskatoon, Canada!
Something important to know about me is that I have had to overcome some pretty severe life challenges, including 5 spinal surgeries since age 11. I have a spinal tumor because of a genetic medical condition. In 2013, when I had my third surgery, something went wrong and I was paralyzed from my waist down. I was in ICU for a month and almost died three times. With prayer, faith and a lot of hard work and determination, I have made a full recovery. In September 2019, I had two more spinal surgeries within 3 days of each other. This was to remove the rods in my back, straighten my spine and replace the rods. It has been a rough recovery but the surgeries were a success. I feel these adversities have made me strong.
I have a child care certificate from ACC. I also have a certificate in counseling from Wilson University. I am a teacher assistant in the Primary classroom and enjoy working with children and watching them grow and learn.
I love the fact that the Montessori concept of education is different than that of traditional education. It’s more of a holistic approach that helps each child learn in their own way. Creativity is encouraged and that makes a difference.
